Just to clarify one point made by Hoop, I'm not aware of any move towards a formal OGC assessment of organisational ITIL conformance, and if there is I'm not involved in it.
If anyone wants to know more about ISO38500 I'm willing to try and answer any questions.
OK I've now sort of summed up the debate with Hoop into a blog post
