prISM or colorless quartz?
Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 10:00AM UPDATE: Bob Sterbens has reached out as well as itSMF USA. Working on a list of question that were not addressed in the FAQ.
Yesterday we covered moment by moment as itSMF USA announced prISM. Jay Stuart, Bob Sterbens
and a very congested Suzanne Van Hove gave us the break down. Today as Bob Sterbens tweeted I asked a few questions of him without any response.
This is the problem with itSMF USA they don’t seem to listen. Let me do a bit of history.
I have been an itSMF USA member for many years now and attended most of the conferences last decade. Recently I was asked to join the local Rocky Mountain Board for our local itSMF LIG. I have been working very hard with our LIG leadership team to start delivering value back to our local members and donated money and time to this effort. I want our LIG to succeed at any cost.
The problem I have with itSMF USA is that they are on a path to destruction after being almost destroyed last year from other issues.
I was interviewed by Brent Knipfer yesterday regarding how itSMF could bring more social media to their Fusion10 event.
I sat patiently while he typed each answer I gave him into his computer. At the end of the call, I explained to him how HDI and Pink Elephant were embracing social media to reach their community. Brent seemed interested although he wanted to steer our conversation back to something more clinical. Several times he mentioned the itSMF USA committee on social media, I really wanted to tell him social media and committee should never be used in the same sentence.
I understand the yearning of prISM to make our illegitimate bastard professional a real living breathing profession, just as Pinocchio wished to be a real boy, but you don’t start a program like prISM like this.
Yesterday we were all instructed to:
- Update out Twitter status to promote prISM
- Update our LinkedIn to promote prISM
Unfortunately I did not do either. The prISM team yesterday allowed no questions although they asked for them, maybe it was a technical issue. Today they are also not taking any questions.
prSIM is done a few things great if you dig below the surface, they allow students and other certificates in as valuable parts of prISM. This is GREAT!
We here at ServiceSphere have offered to help itSMF USA out any way possible to help them get a handle on communicating with their current and the future of their community but no one is has accepted.
If you look at other industry “luminaries” on we follow, you will see many vendors. If you then look again, you will see those poor people have resorted to Ventriloquism for their social media outlet.
Social Media has taken over because people want to be talked with, not TO.
I was really looking forward to signing up for prISM but now I am not sure I want to be part of a group that forgot to include people, real people and even Pinocchio.

Chris,
Thank you so much for the enthusiasm. Since itSMF USA is run primarily by volunteers, please pardon any apparent delay in response here. (It’s the day job that pays the bills)
Regarding the webinar yesterday, it’s funny because I was disappointed that there were no questions. Now I’m hearing you TRIED to ask! (I’m guessing we have some technical issues to discuss with the webinar vendor…)
What are your questions?
I had not realized that you had volunteered to help on our social media strategy. If you’re interested in doing so please email me directly with your contact information and what you are specifically interested in doing. Bring it on...
