Giving IT back, Part II

Down and out in LA

As you may remember an out of work Service Desk manager contacted us last month.  I wanted to share an update on “Down and out in LA”.

“DAOILA” has started his ITIL class at ITpreneurs, been on the HDI web site, been using Thought Rock resources and has been in contact with our own David for peer help.

“DAOILA” actually has had a three interviews and is waiting for face to face with another company.

Thank you again to everyone who helped out this person brave enough to seek help via social media.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

As a board member here in the Rocky Mountain Region for HDI we were given a free pass to HDI’s 2010 conference.  I felt we should not waste this opportunity build some more community.  I asked the board if we could give the pass and a free airfare to a HDI member, but IN RETURN they had to give us a short essay on why HDI.

We had many entries and it was really difficult to pick in the end.  I am happy to announce that Jakki Erosky of the City of Arvada won the prize.  Here is Jakki’s winning essay.

Working in local government in this economy makes it challenging to obtain funding for training and networking opportunities, especially when those opportunities are out of state. I’ve heard that the Annual Conference is an excellent event that offers attendees the ability to network, learn about new technologies and strategies for enhancing service management, and also provides attendees a chance to “recharge” by engaging with high-energy, technology support industry professionals. Since I joined HDI a little over a year ago, I’ve had the chance to meet many great people through the local chapter meetings, to attend many webinars where relevant topics were presented, and to gain additional knowledge about service management strategies through information provided on the HDI website. The low yearly membership dues are well worth the investment, and I’ll continue to participate in the group and hope to become more involved over time. Thanks for providing the group with an opportunity to win free conference registration and airfare. I attended a webinar last week in which a giveaway was also included, but another lucky participant won the prize. I'll be waiting with anticipation in the hopes of being the lucky winner of this one. Even if I don't win, HDI is a great organization. The people involved are friendly and willing to share any information to make others successful, and I feel lucky already to be part of such a great group of professionals.

Remember the same people you see on the way up, you will see on the way down, so spend every day helping, remember we are “Service and Support” professionals.
